Giovanni Dal Monte – Anestetico V1 & V2 (Album – SonicaBotanica)

Genres/Influences: Experimental, Electro.

Format: Digital, 2CD.

Background information: Italian musician Giovanni Dal Monte has been busy for several years and has mostly composed soundtracks. It is also active under the name La Jovenc. This new opus reveals twenty-two songs spread over two discs and directly inspired by the difficult times that humanity is going through.

Contents: Both discs (cf. “Vol 1 Neolitico” and “Vol 2 Evitico”) are animated by experimental sound treatments and more accessible Electro beeps and clicks. I also noticed compelling and deep bass lines, guitar effects and sampled passages.

+ + +: The main strength of this work is the accessible format of the experimental sound. One has the impression that this artist works in a veritable sound laboratory, composing superb electronic beeps and clicks. The work becomes even more original when you notice an emerging harpsichord sound while other parts are done with crystal clear sound treatments.

– – –: The work features some cool songs, but lacks a total climax.

Conclusion: Giovanni Dal Monte gives another dimension to experimental music, bringing together different influences and elements.

Best Songs: “Sassanta Secondi”, “Guimaraes”.

Assess: 6½.
