From wallpaper *:
Worldwide exclusivity! Led by Evans Hankey and Alan Dye, Apple’s design team have a huge influence on the evolution of our relationship with technology. By opening the doors of their studio at Apple Park in Cupertino for the first time, they offered us a deep dive into the work processes behind their latest creations.
The images reveal new processes going into the making of devices like Apple’s iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7, showing in detail a team member assembling the latter by adding their digital crown.
The photos also show members of the team discussing the colors of the new iMac and collaborating to create Apple Watch design combinations that include the watch body, strap, and face in one location. Another image reveals an audio designer creating custom Apple sounds in Design Studio’s sound lab.
The report also provides insight into the history of the unique design philosophy of Apple, initiated in part by Steve Jobs and Jony Ive. It even details the impact of a process as simple as designing both the typeface and the platform it will be displayed on on the same team so that the two work seamlessly. Hankey and Dye told Wallpaper * that Apple Park was “designed for casual meetings as well as for collaboration” and was “so quiet and soothing.”
